John performs on Broadway!

John will be heading to New York to perform in the hit theatre show BRAZIL! BRAZIL!

John Farnworth, 26 year old Football Freestyler of Longridge, Preston, is to perform on New York’s Broadway in a production of ‘Brazil Brazil’. The show incorporates Brazil’s most influential cultural traditions: music, dance, Capoeira and football. John will be taking Football Freestyle to the stage for the first time, giving him the opportunity to pay homage to his own inspirational heroes and inspire new prodigies in the process.

As the only non-Brazilian in the show, it is not only a great honour for John to have been chosen to perform, but it also makes him an ambassador for British football whilst representing a country renowned for its own brilliance in the sport. This is the first time that Football Freestyle will be featured in any Broadway show, making John something of a pioneer in the representation of Freestyle from a new platform.

John’s background in football and progression onto Freestyle is partially owed to his time spent in the Brazilian Soccer Schools project, meaning his appearance in the show is allowing him to bring his talent back to its origin.

John joined the cast in Salvador, Brazil for their intensive three week stint of rehearsals, during which time he learned to incorporate his own skills with the other aspects of the show. He performs alongside musicians, dancers and Capaoeira artists in an exciting cultural collaboration. Whilst in Brazil, John enriched his knowledge of the history and culture of the country by attending favelas and other stage shows. This inspired him to make his own contributions to the production of the show; a photograph taken by Toby Gough whilst John was training is to be used in the promotion of the show, proving what a valued addition to the cast he is.

You can check out the show at the New Victory theatre, Broadway!  The show runs from the 8th to the 26th of February.
